First Aspiring the Best Competition (ABC) Examination Day (01/03/2014)

In 2014 when Abdulahi Abayomi Abdulraheem (31 yrs) created Aspiring the Best Competition (ABC) that was designed to send back to school - less-privileged brilliant youth, challenge the brains of youth through prize-winning educational enhancement project, reduce failure rate in Senior Secondary School Examinations (SSCE) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and build the leaders and citizenry our nation deserves – which was first implemented on Saturday 1st of March, 2014 â€“ exactly 3 years ago!!!, little did he know that the impacts would be so robust and immediate.

As we commemorate the 3 years Anniversary of introducing Aspiring the Best Competition (ABC) that has touched over a thousand livesand now has over 35 Beneficiaries in Higher Institutions of LearningISERH Amb. Bernard Biodun Uti, one of the first set of the competition’s winners that got their SSCE/UTME sponsored and were (and are still) being enrolled under practical leadership tutelage ofISERH, hereby shares his story on how he had lost hope of furthering his education before this ‘divine’ intervention, introduced by theInitiative for Sound Education, Relationship & Health (ISERH), caught up with him. Bernard is presently the President of the Association of Statistics Students of Nigeria (ASSON)Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State Chapter. Read below, how ISERH took him to the rock’s zenith from the depth of rough through ABC Project Intervention:

‘I, ISERH Amb. Bernard Biodun Uti, was born to the family of Mr Isaac Uti and Mrs Margaret Uti on the 19th of April of about three decades ago. I attended The Apostolic Primary School and United Anglican/Methodist Grammar School Ilesa for my primary and secondary education respectively. Due to financial constraint, I couldn't further my academics to higher institution until after 8 years I had finished secondary school.

During this period of staying at home, I focused on studying Mathematics and learning English Language. This period moulded me to understanding Mathematics which formed the basis for my studying it as a course in Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria (Mathematics and Statistics) when I received divine supports. Though I came from a poor family, I didn't allow that to limit me as I struggled each day through engagement in all kinds of jobs to sustain my academic pursuant.

Early 2014, I heard of Aspiring the Best Competition (ABC) from a friend and I quickly picked interest in competing to winning their sponsorship for my GCE.Although, many people doubted the sincerity of purpose of the young man that initiated the project and simply concluded that he wanted to amass wealth through the N500 Application Form the participants were asked to pay, but I was too focused in winning than to be derailed with this perspective of people. I was luckily among the Pioneer 19 Winners of the competition that were celebrated through a low-level Prize-giving Ceremony held on Saturday 8th of March, 2014.It was at the event I got to know that Mr. Abdulahi Abdulraheem, Founder/Executive Director of ISERH and ABC, would be wedding (holding his Nikkah) the following Saturday (15 March, 2014). I was challenged by this young man’s, who is today my mentor and benefactor, sincerity of purpose which got me an instant determination to be submissive to his tutelage, not minding the closeness of our ages.

I got admitted into the prestigious Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti (not my desired school though) for Ordinary National Diploma in Mathematics and Statistics (my dream course). I studied very hard to attain the required GP for Direct Entry Admission into 200 Level of a Nigerian University but fate never granted my university intention. I was encouraged by ISERH Exc. Director, my parents and well-meaning individuals to go for my Higher National Diploma at the same polytechnic. Within me, I remain committed to studying in university, if not for undergraduate, postgraduate is a must.

I initiated and introduced Spelling Competition to my department with the major objective of helping my colleagues to enhance their vocabulary. In view of this, some of my friends joined me to form a group called Spelling Bee Group and we got awarded the Best Academic Group in my department. The competition got the attention of my Faculty which prompted us to have Faculty Spelling Competition during the Faculty Week, in which the winner received a handshake and prize of the Dean of the faculty. I hope to make it the School’s Spelling Competition â€“ may the Lord be my strength.

To God be the Glory, despite challenges faced and conquered, coupled with the opportunity to right leadership training of ISERH under its monthly ISERH Ambassadors’ Forum, I am today, the:

        i.            President of the Association of Statistics Students of Nigeria (ASSON), Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State Chapter.

ii.            Vice PresidentNational Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti Chapter

iii.            And proudly Ambassador of the Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship and Health (ISERH).

As I join the world, other ISERH Ambassadors and other Beneficiaries of Aspiring the Best Competition and other projects of ISERH in wishing the organization Happy 3 Years Anniversary of introducing ABC, I commend and ever-ready to continue emulating the great and exemplary leadership of my mentor, boss and brother – Mr. Abdulahi Abayomi Abdulraheem. I sincerely appreciate everyone who supported and still support this great organization (ISERH) and ABC Project. I and others are the rewards of your support. God bless you all.

Many hopes have been restored and lots of future reshaped through this project. My story is just one out of over 70 Beneficiaries’.

Happy Anniversary to ISERH Board and its Team…

God bless ISERH, its Sponsors and its wonderful Founder!
